Habitat for Humanity Orillia/Lake Country would like to acknowledge the efforts of some very special Lakehead University Social Work students.  Five young ladies dedicated their first semester to the promotion of our affiliate and ReStore.  They designed and implemented a recruitment day at the University.  They set up a display and canvassed as a mini fundraiser at Orillia’s Walmart, plus attended Georgian College’s Volunteer Fair representing us as excellent role models for young people.

We thank you, and wish you well in your community pursuits in the future – best wishes are extended to Nicole Damery, Sandra Butler, Genevieve Wong, Jessica Brodie and Bethany Zeitner.

Read on for a response letter from the ladies!

The Lagoon City Village Feast was held on Saturday, September 15th with a sold-out crowd.  All food was made by volunteers and donated to the Feast by four Lagoon City Market vendors and five grocers, as well as 130 steaks were donated by Debbie Hartley and Jim Hopson.  Mr. David Evans, Corporate Chef with Gordon Food Services, prepared the steaks on the BBQ.  All table decorations were donated by five florists.  The live music was supplied by pianist Dave Hinschberger.  $3,218 was raised for the Habitat for Humanity Square Foot Program (32 square feet purchased) to assist our organization with our Brechin build—a semi-detached home to house two deserving families.  Carol Sharpe, Past-President and Volunteer Committee Chair, and Doug Nicholls, our Build Chair, accepted the very generous donation.  Sincere thanks are extended to the residents of Lagoon City for their support of our organization!
